Built on the site of the old Cookstown Fairgrounds, the Cookstown Community Park was designed to complement the adjacent public library and community centre.
The park’s design provides opportunities for lively, entertaining, and diverse activity. The park will include a paved patio, splash pad, playground, large soccer field, tennis courts, and other features to be implemented over a 5-year period. The first phase of the design has already been completed and was opened to the public in June, 2014.
While providing a wide range of activities, the design also works to restrict potential adverse impact on the storm pond, and the geothermal piping laid throughout the existing library grounds.
The library’s theme of sustainability was carried through to the park design with a recycled water treatment system in the splashpad.
